Job Description: Die Cutting Operator

The Die Cutting Operator is an integral and important production team member in the organization. Interfaces with various Work Centers and other production employees. This position occasionally interacts with Vendor’s. Often interacts with Sales, Graphics, and members of the US team.
JOB DUTIES
- Die Cutting Operator reviews production schedule for their Work Center and retrieves corresponding Job Travelers from previous Work Center or Production Manager to determine which printed WIP or aerated paperboard are required for the jobs on the daily production schedule.
- Reviews Job Traveler Envelope, which includes the Job Traveler and item code sample. Item code sample is used as a reference. Once reviewed the following steps are performed:
- Ensure that required printed WIP or aerated paperboard is available by the Die Cutting Work Center as previously delivered by the Aerator Operator.
- Retrieves materials as listed on the Job Traveler such as die complex from Plant Logistics Coordinator. Die complex includes, but not limited to, production die, stripping set, counter plates and spot sheet.
- Sets up Die Cutting Press to begin make-ready sheets.
- Records setup time on Job Traveler.
- Uses item code sample and/or approved Reference Copy as comparison.
- Once make-ready sheet matches the item code sample and/or approved Reference Copy, the Die Cutting Operator notifies the Production Manager for match verification and approval.
- After Production Manager signs approval on the Job Traveler, the Die Cutting Operator resumes full production run.
- To run die cutting press with maximum efficiency without sacrificing quality.
- Continually check quality and make any necessary adjustments to improve quality during production run. Immediately notifies Production Manager of any issues with raw materials, printing quality, or mechanical.
- Ensures that Production load tags are kept on each die cutted load.
- Delivers die cutted pallet loads and Job Traveler Envelope to respective Work Center, typically Stripping, using a pallet jack.
- Maintain physical integrity of all paperboard waste/scrap.
- Records on Job Traveler all information as referenced on the Job Traveler Work Instructions, such as total sheets starting/ending, sheets scrapped and run times.
- Records jobs completed with time spent on Time Card/Log(either on manual cards or computerized ERP).
- Returns to Plant Logistics Coordinator and/or Production Manager the die complex.
- Maintain Work Center equipment and machine to prevent breakdowns and interruptions to the production schedule. Immediately reports all equipment and machine problems to the Production Manager.
- Updates Maintenance Checklist Log evidencing completion of preventative maintenance measures as outlined in the respective Work Center checklist with operator initials and date.
- Continuously maintain Work Center area and equipment so it is clean and safe.
- Submits purchase requisitions for parts, supplies and repairs to Production Manager.
- Participates in inventory and cycle counts as required.
- Interfaces with Plant Quality Control Coordinator, Plant Logistics Coordinator, Sales personnel, and Production Manager on die cutting and quality checks as needed.
- Any other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school completion strongly preferred. Successful completion of vocational educational training for die cutting operations preferred.
- Previous experience operating an die cutting press required. Prior experience with BOBST die cutting press preferred. Minimum 2 years.
- Previous experience in making and/or maintaining dies preferred.
- Effectively communicate in English & Spanish written and verbal.
- Intermediate mathematical proficiency and an above average passing grade on Company Math test.
- Above average mechanical aptitude.
- Continuous learner of changes and advances of die cutting technology.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Standing and walking up to 10 hours with appropriate rest breaks as required by law.
- Routinely lifting up to 50 pounds (23kg) and pulling up to 150 pounds (68Kg) by pallet jack.
- Must be in good health and physically able to perform job duties described above.
AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Must be available to work on scheduled production days as assigned by the Production Manager and supplied via weekly work schedule for the Company.
- Overtime may be required.
